UNIVERSITY OF SZEGED
FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES AND SOCIAL STUDIES
The Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies at the University of Szeged (SZTE ETSZK) is dedicated to excellence in education and research within the fields of health sciences and social care.

Our educational heritage dates back to 1938, when health visitor training began in our Újszeged building under the auspices of the National Institute of Public Health. By 1973, the program evolved into college-level education, incorporating social sciences into the core curriculum. The establishment and continuous development of the college-level health visitor program are closely linked to the distinguished work of Professor Dr. Éva Szél; under her fifteen-year leadership, the department achieved national renown.
In 1989, we became a college faculty of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical University, subsequently expanding our academic portfolio with the establishment of Physiotherapy and Social Work programs. Our Department of Nursing was founded in 1993 to provide high-quality training for professional nurses and to contribute to the advancement of nursing practice and science.
Following the nationwide institutional integration in 2000, the Faculty became an independent unit of the University of Szeged. Initially known as the College of Health Care, the institution was renamed the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies in November 2006.
In 2014, in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry, we launched our Dental Hygiene program. Currently, we are in the preparatory stages of introducing Paramedic and Midwifery specializations.
Research is central to our mission. Our faculty members are engaged in numerous projects aimed at advancing knowledge in health and social sciences and improving patient care and social services. We emphasize interdisciplinary cooperation, encouraging our researchers to collaborate with colleagues from other faculties and international institutions.
The Faculty boasts modern facilities, including demonstration rooms and specialized laboratories for motion analysis and ergometry. In recent years, we have acquired state-of-the-art equipment, such as the Anatomage virtual anatomy table—unique in the country—as well as VR technology and advanced physiotherapy devices (including laser, deep oscillation, and electrotherapy units). These resources provide our students with essential hands-on experience and the skills necessary for their future careers. Furthermore, our strong partnerships with local hospitals, healthcare institutions, and social service providers ensure that our graduates gain invaluable practical training during their studies.
